say i'm running an http transfer (PUT or POST) and i pull the network wire in
the middle.

what's the easiest way to set curl up to eventually throw a timeout on a
write()? i dont' want to set the whole transfer timeout, because transfers
might be large and take a long time. i'd like a clock to start on each write()
and timeout in a minute or a couple or minutes.

i'm using a slightly older version of the library (no threads). i'd be willing
to patch the source if i need to.
