Can I use pycurl to max out a 20mbps pipe?

I'm currently working on a project that gets urls from a MySQL database and
connects to them. I had a implementation written with threading but it was
barely touching my bandwidth. Ideally I'd like to make at least 5mbps worth
of http requests. Is this possible, and is libcurl right for the job? I
greatly appreciate any suggestions or advice.
