I sent a patch to the list to help with the --static-libs problem.
IIRC, Solaris doesn't build if this option is present, too.

There's also a bug in pycurl's implementation of reset(), which is
essentially a wrapper around curl_easy_reset(). I sent out a patch for
that in April, too.

As far as I know, neither of these fixes have been incoprorated into
PyCurl yet. :(
