Found the problem. As Daniel pointed out, I was using the wrong syntax. The
right syntax is:

curl_setopt($cobj, CURLOPT_POSTQUOTE, array("RNFR /foldername/$filename",
"RNTO /foldername/subfoldername/$filename"));
