You have a couple of options:I

Install the current curl-7.12.1 (why use an old version?) and rebuild
the version of PHP that you need, against the newly installed cURL -
this will work fine.

Leave your existing cURL and PHP versions untouched, and grab the
currnet cURL source, and install it in an alternate location, such as
/usr/local/curl-7.12.1/ - then you can use the current command line
version that you need.
