This very day, 5 years ago, the first ever curl release was brought to the
world by yours truly.
Since that day, curl has developed from a tiny little tool used by none but a
few, to become part of each and every Linux distribution, part of Mac OS X, a
widely used tool on BSD and other UNIX systems and having been built on more
than 40 different OS+CPU combinations. libcurl, introduced a few years later
but still building on the same fundamentals, offers URL transfer power to
numerous applications, much thanks to all the bindings available. Currently
there are *17* published different bindings, for next to every imaginable
programming language.
curl has never been a high-status open source project, nor has it ever
attracted very much attention anywhere. It's just one of those tools people
use, that exists and that "just works".
I made a fun little experiment, and extract the names from all sorts of
release announcments and other sources, only to get a view of the amount of
people that have helped us so far on this journey.
It turned out I got no less than 270 names without even trying to scan the
changelogs for names. So, even although I see curl as a sort of a personal
baby of mine and I feel proud that curl has become what it is today, it would
certainly not have been even close to this without the huge crowd of friendly
contributors.
Please don't feel offended if I missed you in this (incomplete) list of curl
contributors over the years.
My warmest and sincerest thanks go to these people:
