Thanks I got this working by adding:

curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);

and then printing the result returned from the curl_exec.

I didn't figure out why the 0 was popping up but this works and I have to
move along.

If you really want to have a look at an example let me know and I'll
provide one.
