it looks like support for libidn has beed abandoned in favor of libidn2. In
  https://www.gnu.org/software/libidn/#libidn2
it is stated that libidn2 can be downloaded from
  https://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/libidn/
but there are only libidn 1.x versions for download.

The only version I could find was at
  http://josefsson.org/libidn2/
with broken links to the Git Repository and a downloadable version
  libidn2 0.3

Is this really the last version available and recommended for use with Curl?
We (=OpenCSW) are currently shipping libidn 1.33.
