So, for example, trying to upgrade curl using the RPM's on the curl site
leads you quickly into dependency hell:

rpm -Uvh libcurl*.rpm

         libssh2.so.1 is needed by libcurl-7.23.1-5.0.cf.rhel5.i386

Same thing (more or less) for curl itself.

So, simple update to curl (to test hypothesis that problems are because
curl is 'too old') ain't so simple.
