Globbing error in Linux

In WinXP using curl 7.97. I can run this command OK:
curl http://64.79.206.20:9090/dods/gfs/global/gfs20090506/gfs_06z.ascii?prmslmsl[0:60][53:53][177:177] -o test.txt
but in Ubuntu Linux using curl 7.18.0 I get a globbing error. Apparently it doesn't like the bits in square brackets.
Is there a way around this?
