Another year has passed

Hi
We're at the end of yet another year, and I thought I'd take the opportunity
to sum things up before I take my christmas holiday...
We managed to produce seven public releases during 2005. Looking back over the
years, we have slowed down the relase pace. In 2000 for example, we did 14
releases.
Three security vulnerabilities were found and reported. I personally think
this is because people are slowly realizing that (lib)curl is used incredibly
much and there is defintely a point in doing code reviews and scans for source
code mistakes.
The average amount of daily visits on curl.haxx.se raised from 3200 in
December 2004 to over 5200 so far in December 2005.
In 2004 the main web site served 600,000 unique visitors. For 2005 we're at
1,030,000 and counting. Every month, more than 100,000 unique visitors drop
by.
At the beginning of this year we had 15 web mirrors. Now we're at 27 - and
then I continue to remove sites from the list when they go stale or just
aren't synced properly...
We currently keep track of 262 different download packages of curl on the
download page and download wizard. We list 49 named companies using libcurl
commerically (notable newcomers on that list this year is Adobe Acrobat Reader
and Google Earth).
During 2005, I personally sent over 4000 emails. More than 2200 of them were
curl related. I received some 6300 curl-related emails (including my own 1800
posts to the mailing lists).
curl continued to be my number one spare time hobby and open source project
I'm involved in. I've spent roughly 10-15 hours per week on curl trough the
year.
In October 2005 I received funding for improving libcurl and have spent
December working on this project. I hope to complete it in spring/summer 2006,
depending on how my regular job schedule turns out.
The 72 bug reports submitted in the bug tracker during the year, were closed
after 6.1 days in average. It is in fact slightly slower than the 68 submitted
last year that were closed after 5.2 days, but I still consider that very
good.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Let's make next year even better.
