Indeed. I can repeat this from my host too. Very odd.

I still can't see how this is a curl fault.

I wonder if this is because:

1. that telnet attempt doesn't use proper CR+LF line endings

2. the telnet attempt doesn't send the entire request in one single packet
   over the network.
