Is 'admin' the same as root on your system? If not, you should probably
"su -" to root to do the install. If you chown /usr/local to your admin
user, you might possibly break something installed in /usr/local that
really needs to be owned by root... For example, a binary that's suid
root would become suid admin...

Of course, if you know that everything under /usr/local is OK to be
owned by admin, then go for it.
