curl-users
error in man page
Date: Tue, 29 Jul 2003 02:27:54 -0400
I have found a mistake in the curl man pages. In the following text,
the -y and -Y are mixed up somehow:
-y/--speed-time <time>
If a download is slower than speed-limit bytes per
second during a speed-time period, the download
gets aborted. If speed-time is used, the default
speed-limit will be 1 unless set with -y.
If this option is used several times, the last one
will be used.
-Y/--speed-limit <speed>
If a download is slower than this given speed, in
bytes per second, for speed-time seconds it gets
aborted. speed-time is set with -Y and is 30 if not
set.
If this option is used several times, the last one
will be used.
At first we are told that -y is the same as speed-time, but then in the
description for -y it tells us that speed-limit is set with -y (instead
of -Y). We are then told that speed-limit is set with -Y, but in its
description we are told that -Y is speed-time. So it's not clear which
is the error and which is right.
I bet that no one has pointed it out since most people either guess
right or play with it till they figure it out. (I'm guessing that the
switches listed first are correct and the descriptive text is wrong.)
Thanks.
