To compile your own, it'll be easiest to download the source from within Cygwin's setup.exe, rather than grabbing from the curl website (unless you grab the cygwin specific sources...). That's because the one Daniel distributes don't get along very well with the build tools on cygwin... See the cygwin-specific readme (/usr/docs/Cygwin/curl-...) for more info.

        Hm, OK, I'll see what I can do. As I said, though, the version I'm
        using was a precompiled binary; I haven't tried to compile my own yet.
        But if I find time, I'll try to compile my own and see whether it dies
        the same way.
