Daniel,
I tried it that way, but when I run file on the the executable I still get a
message that it is using shared libs. Any suggestions? I am having a problem
using curl on RH9.0 when I use a FQDN instead of an ip address. I get a
segmentation fault.

./configure --disable-shared
