Summary: multi + bad proxy port == hang

Initial Comment:
If I specify an invalid port for a proxy with the multi
interface, it hangs. I have tried this in both windows (XP)
and Linux (redhat 7.2 on i386) with 7.10.2.

In the example code, I use port 3129 on which there is
no proxy running.
