It seems this was a wetware (me) problem. Thanks to Richard Kurth of
directphp.com for teaching me wget.

The problem seems to have been some sort of coruption in downloading the
file to a windows desktop then uploading it to the Cobalt server.

On your standard "RedHat-like" architecture (RedHat, Mandrake, PLD, etc)
the above works just fine; it's something unique (??) about Cobalt, is
my guess. I also have another fella on a SuSE box having some problems
too...

Anyone here know anything about this Sun Cobalt server? What
distro/setup it's based on?
