So, there is zero chance that any of us know even 1% of other's use cases,
so just because it makes no sense to you means very little.
One can argue trade-offs, maybe it is worth going to new compiler variant if it
actually has some benefits. But if there are no real benefits to the folks
actually writing code for curl, then staying with older compiler requirements may help
some folks maintaining old systems.
